    Job Duties

    The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Manager of Information Technology. The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center provides access to higher education, workforce training and programming, innovative industry services, and technologically advanced state-of-the-art facilities and learning labs that includes comprehensive fiscal management, operational and supportive services, community outreach and engagement, and extensive collaborations. These components work together to support the organization’s mission of advancing Southern Virginia’s economic potential through education, innovation, and collaboration. This position ensures that the agency's IT infrastructure, systems, equipment, and individual units as well as the day-to-day operations of the facilities function at optimal levels. The position provides extensive administrative and managerial oversight of staff consisting of various levels of IT and operations professionals. This is a restricted, classified position.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Extensive knowledge in cloud client/server technology and networks architectures. Proven ability to configure, protect, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot multi-vendor, wired and wireless networks, local, virtual, and cloud infrastructures, such as Cisco, HPE, Aruba, and Palo Alto, VMWare, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Sentinel and Defender, Barracuda Email Protection and Google Suite. Considerable knowledge in digital cyber security, policies, and IT best practices. Ability to deploy, monitor, manage, and secure appropriate software and systems using IT security tools (including but not limited to antivirus, intrusion detection, firewalls, web, or cloud-based firewalls). Knowledge of operational safety and security protocols and emergency action planning. Proven ability to write, evaluate, and deploy emergency action plans for building operations safety and security needs. Proven ability to effectively lead a team using listening, collaboration and problem-solving techniques. Extensive working knowledge of project management with proven ability to manage and oversee multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to analyze budgetary data to manage expenditures. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with diverse audiences. Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions. Ability to lead department-level goal setting and ensure alignment with agency's strategic plan. Must possess a high-level of attention to detail. High school graduate or equivalent.

    Additional Considerations

    Current industry certifications in one or more of the following (or comparable): Cisco, CompTIA, HPE, Microsoft, Aruba, or Palo Alto. Extensive, progressively responsible work experience in the information technology field, preferably in a higher education or public sector environment. Supplemental knowledge, skills, and abilities that enhance successful performance of the essential job duties (e.g., project management, cybersecurity, facilities technologies). Specialized training related to IT management, cybersecurity, networking, cloud services, or facilities operations. Specialized job-related experience with relevant software applications, management tools, and monitoring platforms.
