Warm Hearts FREE Firewood Giveaway
South Boston United Way of Halifax County will host a “Warm Hearts” Free Firewood Giveaway” on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9am -1pm at the Farmer’s Market in the town of Halifax. The firewood that has been donated is ONLY suitable for indoor/outdoor fireplace or fire pit type usage and is NOT for cooking. The wood is completely SAFE but the packaging is flawed since it indicates that it can be used for cooking; they strongly recommends that it NOT be used for cooking purposes. United Way will only require that you sign a waiver stating that you understand that it is not intending for cooking purposes, your name and number of persons in your household to be used for statistical information.
Suwannee Lumber who does business as Lite My Fire commonly donates ground cover and wood products to church groups, community organizations, golf courses hosting charity events, organizations for veterans and other reputable causes. Suwannee came across United Way of Halifax County in part because of their relationship with the Chamber of Commerce as they have members for a few years. The big day for distribution will take place this coming Saturday on the 9th. United Way is asking that patrons have appropriate transportation to load and haul the wood as there will be NO deliveries. United Way will have volunteers on hand to assist with getting it to the vehicles. Medley says that United Way is truly grateful to be the catalyst to help get this donation out into the heart of the community to keep families safe and warm. We believe in paying it forward. The community has been incredible about keeping United Way and its partner agencies sustained. This give-a-way is on a first come first serve basis and will be available to any person/family in need within reason.
