Author Joe Tennis of Bristol, Virginia, is conducting a reading, showing slides and speaking on "Virginia Rail Trails: Crossing the Commonwealth from Beach to Bluegrass" at the South Boston-Halifax County Museum of Fine Arts and History. Tennis, 48, is a writer for the Lake Country guide, published by LeisureMedia360, and the author of two books featuring South Boston, "Virginia Rail Trails: Crossing the Commonwealth' and "Along Virginia's Route 58: True Tales from Beach to Bluegrass." A native of Virginia Beach, Tennis has also released three ghost tale collections; two pictorial histories of the mountains near Bristol; a guide to Southwest Virginia; and a children's book. He is speaking on former railroad lines turned to trails across Virginia, including sites in and around South Boston, Danville, Martinsville, South Hill, Farmville and Abingdon. He is also sharing tales along the U.S. 58 corridor, including a few railroad-related ghost tales and haunted hotels - from Berry Hill to the Cavalier of Virginia Beach. A book signing follows the event.
