The Halifax County Chamber of Commerce hosting a Candidate Forum on Thursday, April 26 for South Boston Town Council. The forum begins at 6:30 pm and will be held in the Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation Boardroom of the SVHEC located at 820 Bruce Street. Nick Long, general manager of WHLF 95.3, will moderate the forum. Those interested in submitting questions for the forum can submit those questions via email to info@halifaxchamber.net.
The forum will begin with a conversation with those running for Town Council. Candidates will be given an opportunity to communicate their positions on pressing issues. Those invited include Winston Harrell, Sharon Harris, W. R. “Bill” Snead, and Coleman Speece. There is a four-way race for three seats.
Michael Byrd has also been invited, but is the only candidate qualifying for a special election to fill the unexpired term of the late Billy Clarke.
Harrell, Harris, Snead, and Speece are running for four-year terms on council, while the winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Clarke’s term that expires June 30, 2020.
Election Day is Tuesday, May 1.
