    Job Description
    The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Information Technology Specialist. The Information Technology position reports to the Network Administrator/Trainer. 
    The following responsibilities are associated with the IT Specialist role: provides information technology support and training for the SVHEC administrative staff, academic partners, and students. Duties include, but are not limited to: Microsoft Server administration, support Active Directory environment, Create Office 365 mailboxes, user accounts, group policies, and security settings. Install and support of desktop, server, and laptop hardware and software for the Agency. Update software, Windows, etc. (Patch management) for desktop, server, and laptops. Deploy Computer image to SVHEC domain network. Install wires/copper, etc. label, test and terminate. Monitoring of critical IT infrastructure systems and using cyber security best practices. Installation of various networking devices and providing video over IP support. Technical support and resolution of network related problems. Providing helpdesk support such as password changes and escalating issues as needed. 
    Please note: Full-time classified restricted grant funding position. Funding is dependent upon grant funding availability. 
    High School diploma or equivalent. Any one of the following: 2 IT Professional certifications [i.e. CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+ CompTIA Network+, Security+, CCNA, MCSA]; Community College certifications and/or Associate degree or course work with a focus on IT. 1 year of work experience in the information technology field. Good oral and written communication skills. 
    Preferred qualifications: 
    Any combination of the following are preferred: more than 2 years of work experience in the information technology field; 3 or more Professional level CompTIA certifications and/or Cisco and other IT Industry specific certifications [i.e. CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+ CompTIA Network+, Security+, CCNA, MCSA]; Associate degree or higher with a focus on IT.
