Please join The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR), New College Institute (NCI), Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) and Virginia Secretary of Education, who are excited to host the first Southern Virginia STEM-H Summit: Education for Innovation to be held on April 11-12, 2013 at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville, Virginia.
The Southern Virginia STEM-H Summit will bring together regional stakeholders around the topic of creating the next generation of innovators through collaborations among K-12 school districts, higher education institutions, businesses, and community organizations. This opportunity will create momentum for the development and continued support of innovative STEM-H programs in our region.

Institute Will Host the Southern Virginia STEM-H Summit: Education for Innovation in April
(Danville, VA) – In partnership with the New College Institute, Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, and the Virginia Secretary of Education, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research will host the Southern Virginia STEM –H (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Health) Summit: Education for Innovation on April 11 and 12.
The Summit will provide an opportunity for regional stakeholders, including: educators, students, community, and industry leaders, to collaborate on the development of the next generation of STEM-H innovators, a necessity for the economic and social transformation of our nation and region.
The Summit will begin on Thursday, April 11, with a Community Reception and Opening Session. The theme for the opening night is Innovation for Community Transformation. Come to experience the best of innovative STEM-H education in southern Virginia. Organizations from throughout the region will provide hands-on activities and demonstrations. There is no cost to attend, but registrations are required and can be made online at www.sovastem-h.org. On Friday, April 12, registered teachers and students will attend summit sessions from 8:00 am- 3:00 pm. They will be joined by industry and community leaders from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. Dr. Tony Wagner, the first Innovation Education Fellow at the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard, will deliver the lunch keynote. Dr. Wagner will also lead workshops for all attendees after lunch.
