(HALIFAX, Va.) – Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Virginia Cooperative Extension, Halifax Soil & Water Conservation District, and Halifax County are pleased to co-host the Southern Virginia Industrial Hemp Production Workshop for anyone interested in growing industrial hemp. Registration is now open by calling either 434-476-2147 or 434-476-7923.
Farmers should attend according to Luke Hudson, Conservation Specialist at Halifax Water & Soil Conservation District since “Industrial hemp has the potential to fit into farming systems, and should be explored as an option since new ag opportunities are few and far between.”
“At this crucial juncture, it is important for produces to educate themselves on growing hemp as it can be a finicky crop” said Kimley Blanks, Halifax County Special Projects Manager.
Panelists will reflect a multitude of areas like Erin Williams, VDACS Industrial Hemp Policy and Registration, Blake Butler, Executive Director of the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association, Brad Todd, with HempGrowers, Calvin Whitfield, Hemp Grower, Stephen Barts, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and Jonathan Davidson, Berry Hill Irrigation. They will present and discuss the registration process for VA growers, state of the industry, budgets, inputs, production and irrigation. Following the presentations there will be a Q & A session will all of the panelists.
