Join us for our Annual Home Educators’ Living History Day for children. The program is geared for children ages 8 to 10 years old, although children younger and older benefit and can participate in the hands-on experience of 18th-century life. Programs can rotate among spinning and weaving, blacksmithing, pottery, a walking tour, Colonial medicine, basket making, tin punching, and rope making.
There will be one spring day of Living History offered for homeschool students: Friday, April 22, 2022, 8:30am until 2:00pm. Families will be able to visit each station available at their leisure. Living History will end at 12:30 and families can eat their packed lunches on the grounds. After lunch, your time is your own. Please feel free to walk the trails, visit the historic buildings again, head home, or stick around for award-winning children’s author Jenny Cote’s Creative Writing Workshop at 1pm. Playing on one of Patrick Henry’s impassioned quotes, “IF THIS BE FICTION, MAKE THE MOST OF IT!” the Workshop will cover how to write historical fiction, including choosing a character, doing the crucial research (and having fun with it!), organizing the story, and then writing it to keep your reader eagerly turning the pages.
Advance Registration is Required for this Event. Adults/Chaperones are $6/each, Children 4 and up are $5/each, and Children 3 and under are free, but tickets must still be reserved for them.
Tickets are non-refundable. This is a rain or shine event. After purchasing tickets, a confirmation email will be sent to you.
